Steve Jobs

Steven Paul Jobs is a global icon in the field of computers and technology.  He known for being co-founder and CEO of Apple Inc. Jobs was born in San Francisco and was adopted by  Paul and Clara Jobs who lived in California. Jobs attended Cupertino Junior High School and later Homestead high school in California. He was soon hired at Hewlett-Packard Company and he worked with Steve Wozniak as a summer employee.  In 1974 steve began to attend meetings of HomeBrew Computer Club with Wozniak in California. He took a job as a technician at Atari, a manufacturer of popular video games, with the primary intent of saving money for a spiritual retreat to India. Jobs then traveled to India with a Reed College friend Daniel Kottke, in search of spiritual enlightenment. He came back a Buddhist with his head shaved and wearing traditional Indian clothing.

In 1976, Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Ronald Wayne, with later funding from a then-semi-retired Intel product-marketing manager and engineer A.C. “Mike” Markkula , founded Apple. In 1978, Apple recruited Mike Scott from National Semiconductor to serve as CEO for what turned out to be several turbulent years. In May 1985 Jobs was fired from Apple Inc by CEO John Sculley.

After that  Jobs founded another computer company, NeXT Computer. Jobs marketed NeXT products to the scientific and academic fields because of the innovative, experimental new technologies it incorporated (such as the Mach kernel, the digital signal processor chip, and the built-in Ethernet port). In 1986, Jobs bought The Graphics Group (later renamed Pixar) from Lucas film’s computer graphics division for the price of $10 million. In 1996, Apple announced that it would buy NeXT for $429 million. The deal was finalized in late 1996, bringing Jobs back to the company he co-founded. And he soon became the CEO of Apple. Jobs also previously served as chief executive of Pixar Animation Studios; he became a member of the board of The Walt Disney Company in 2006, following the acquisition of Pixar by Disney.

Bill Gates as you all know the author, chairman and co-founder  of software giant Microsoft. We face lack of words to write about him and his works. And many of you already know lot of things about him. But still I just want to highlight a few things about him.

He remained list of most wealthiest persons from 1995 to 2008. Gates is one of the best known entrepreneurs in the computer industry though he is criticized by some industry experts.

He was born in Seattle Washington to William H. Gates and Mary Maxwell Gates.  At the age of 13 he joined Lakeside school. When he was in eighth standard, Mothers Club at school bought a General Electronic (GE) computer for school students.   Gates took  interest in the Computer i.e. GE. Then he wrote his first computer program on that machine i.e. he implemented the tic-tac-toe game.  Later Bill Gates went to Computer Centre Corporation (CCC) to learn various programming languages such as Lisp, Fortran and Machine Language etc.  Gates graduated from Lakeside school in 1973 and he enrolled at Harvard University. There he met Steve Ballmer who at present is the CEO of Microsoft. He also remained in contact with his school friend Paul Allen. Then these geeks developed an emulator and interpreter for Altair machine known as Altair Basic. And they founded Microsoft.  Then very soon it became popular. And 1976 in became independent of MITS.

In 1980 they had deal with IBM to develop BASIC interpreter for personal computer IBM PC.  After an year or so Microsoft developed an Operating System (OS) known as PC-DOS which was similar to CPM and will run on all PCs.  Microsoft launched its first Windows OS in the year 1985.
