Install VLC player in Ubuntu

  • Connect to the internet. Open the terminal and type the following command in the command prompt.
    $> sudo apt-get update
  • Then it will ask for password. Give the root password. Then sit quiet for about 15 minutes until it updates its libraries and dependency packages. Then it returns the prompt after updating everything.
  • Now type the following command: $> sudo apt-get install vlc (here $ is only the symbol for prompt. Don’t include this in the command)
  • Now it will take around some 20 minutes to download and install vlc within terminal. Aferwards you can play any file with VLC by “open with VLC player” option.
