Install Ubuntu in your PC

UBUNTU 9.10 installation guide

Hello friends, this guide is aimed to promote the users of UBUNTU. This is dedicated to newbies.

I hope you will follow these steps.

There are two ways to install UBUNTU i.e. You can install it within WINDOWS or you can install it on a separate drive of hard disk along with WINDOWS to use your system in dual boot mode.

Install UBUNTU in a separate drive along with WINDOWS:

  • Insert the bootable CD of UBUNTU 9.10 in the CD-ROM drive.
  • Then you will get the window shown below.

  • Here there are two steps:1. If you want to know how UBUNTU looks and available features in it then select “Try Ubuntu without any change to your computer” option and hit enter. But it will not install ubuntu. 2. If you directly want to install UBUNTU then select “ Install Ubuntu”and press enter.
  • Then wait for 2-3 minutes and you will see one graphical window.

> Here the main installation begins.

This is the 1st step, where you should select the default language for

system. Most people select “English” as their default language.

> This is 2nd step. Here we will choose the timing zone to set our system clock. It is as above.

In this step, we choose the keyboard layout. Most used option is “US keyboard”. You can go to

other options also.

  • The 4th step is most important and dangerous step. While partitioning your hard drive you

have to be very careful to avoid any data loss. If you trying to prepare dual boot system

i.e. If already “WINDOWS” is installed in the PC and in other partition you are

installing UBUNTU then follw these steps:

Here i am installing UBUNTU in virtual system but if you are installing it in the main

system then in the above figure, it will show all the partitions along with their labels. If

WINDOWS is already installed in your system then it will be shown in green color as

above is shown with orange.

> In the above figure, just click on “ specify partitions manually”. Then on “forward”.

> Then you will get the window shown below.

    • In the above window, click on “New Partition Table” and then on “forward” as usual. Then a small window appears to warn you. Simply click on “continue”.
    • Then in next window all the partitions will be shown. Do not disturb the partition containing “WINDOWS” and other partitions where you have stored valuable data.

But click on the partition where you want to put your new UBUNTU system.

Here in the figure, we are not able to show all the partitions properly due to some

problems.

Now to partition the desired drive, select that drive and click on the “Add” button as shown in the below figure.

Then a small window appears where you have to specify size of the drive, file system and mount point etc.

Then click on “OK” followed by “forward” as usual.

Once you complete this step carefully then nothing much left.

Now your drive is ready to install UBUNTU. Next following window appears.

Just hit “forward”.

  • In the small window appeared click on “Continue”.
  • Then in the next window you will be asked for “USERNAME” and “PASSWORD” etc. If you want your system to be much secured then try to give strong password consisting of letters, digits and special characters.
  • Click on “Forward”.

  • This is the last step, where you just have to click on “Install” button.
  • And then it will take some some 20-25 minutes to install the whole software. Until then you better to go and have a cup of tea. Start experiencing UBUNTU.
